Foods that combat fatigue

Feeling tired, sluggish and weary?  If this is your normal life state then you need to reboot. Whatever the reason for fatigue, rest and diet will always top the list as an antidote for feeling sluggish all the time.

We all know by now that eating a well-balanced diet will provide all the essential nutrients that one needs to feel energized. Yet some foods take the lead in reducing fatigue. The following kind of foods is what one should list in one’s dietary chart to tackle fatigue:

Banana

Banana is full of potassium, an important mineral that plays a crucial role in changing sugar into energy. The yellow-skinned bananas are rich in B vitamin, vitamin C, omega 3 and 6 fatty acids and an array of essential nutrients. This fruit is full of fibre and complex carbohydrate which is responsible for giving you all the ‘dangal’ like-energy you need. Enjoy a glass of banana milkshake on a hot summer afternoon. Chana and gur (jaggery)

It is a wonder that people are still unaware of the potency of this combination.  Do you understand horsepower, well this is simply it! Take a handful of chana and some jaggery. Taken on a regular basis it will give you the energy King Khan is famous for. You can try another variant of this combo. Add some ghee to the jaggery. Have it just like it or have it with chana and peanuts. It is full of nutrition exactly what grandma recommended. 

Sweet potatoes

Filled up to the brim with complex carbohydrates, vitamin C, and beta-carotene (vitamin A), sweet potato will help you combat your 4 pm hunger as well as the mid-day fatigue. Boil and mash them or cut the boiled potatoes into bite-size strips, sauté with a little oil and add a dash of chaat masala for that extra taste. If you want a healthier version of this mid-day snack, bake it.

Oatmeal

A perfect way to begin your energetic day! Oatmeal for breakfast provides your muscles with essential nutrient and gives your brain the power and the required fuel to keep going throughout the day. The fibre in the oatmeal makes it super potent. Along with proteins and the essential vitamins, we earnestly urge “God to give us our daily bowl of oatmeal”. Add some honey, nuts and milk and dearies you are good to go!

Dark Chocolate

Can’t stop grinning right? Polyphenols in our dark chocolate make it a super happy choice for energy. It is known through various studies that dark chocolate has a positive impact as it triggers off the feel-good hormone – Aww come on guys, chocolate and feel-good is elementary knowledge. In short, a piece of dark chocolate gets our thumbs up as it promotes energy levels and is heart healthy too.

Dahi (Yoghurt)

Want a quick shot of energy? Take a katori of dahi. Add some jaggery to make it delicious. See your energy levels increase. Moreover, the protein in yoghurt keeps you going stronger for a longer time. Additionally, this pro-biotic food is good for your gut health. Toh, dahi hai sahi…

Tackle anaemia

Many of us are iron-deficient i.e. anaemic which results in fatigue, muscle weakness and weakness. Apart from taking health supplements, jam-pack your diet with iron-rich dietary options. High sources of iron include red meat (due diligence required), pork, poultry, shellfish, eggs, beans, nuts, dried fruits, dark leafy greens, and peas. Some foods, such as whole-grain bread and cereals, are also filled with iron. One can also consume bran, oats, soy milk, and cow milk to accumulate iron for the body.

Water

Many times, especially in summer, we get dehydrated without knowing. Lack of water can result in energy loss. A glass of cool paani will revive you and give you back your energy. A spoon of electrolytes mixed in water will give an added punch. Go don’t forget your glass of water.

Nuts like almonds, walnuts, dry fruits, fruits like apples, breakfast of eggs or bran flakes, beans for lunch will boost your energy levels.
