10 Unique Uses of Aluminum Foil

It provides solutions for home tasks that may seem simple yet can be quite tedious without the right tools.

Tip – You can use aluminum foil to protect your silver when storing them away.

Isn’t it always a surprise to find out that a household product has multiple uses other than the intended one? Take aluminum foil for instance. It provides marvelous solutions for many home tasks that may seem simple yet can be quite tedious without the right tools.

Don’t believe us? Here are some of the unique uses of aluminium foil

  1. Scrub utensils

Run out on scrub pads? Don’t worry, just scrunch some aluminum foil together and scrub away. It can also work wonders on those hard-to-remove food substances from non-stick utensils.

  1. Sparkle the silver

If you keep your silverware unused because you dread cleaning them, help is here. Just line some foil in a pan and fill it with hot water, baking soda and salt. Now place your silverware in it and watch a simple chemical process work like charm. In just a few minutes, the tarnish from your silver will begin to fade away. You can then simply run them under cold water, dry and use them as you wish. This can be done to clean your silver jewellery too.

Here is a bonus tip – you can also use aluminum foil to protect your silver when storing them away. Wrap each piece of silver with a cellophane sheet and then cover it with aluminum foil. The idea is to keep them safely tucked away from air and moisture – the tarnish culprits.

  1. Make baking pans

Aluminum foil can act as makeshift cake pans or cookie moulds. Now surprise your child with cookies in interesting shapes. Just fold the foil in any shape you want, fill it with cookie dough and place the moulds on the baking tray. Your cookies will bake perfectly.

You can do the same for cakes. Take a large cake pan and use it as the base. Line it with your newly-fashioned cake mould. Use thick layers of aluminum foil to make any shape you want and place it inside the large tin. Now bake away.

  1. Clean the oven

You love using your oven but hate cleaning it after a spill. Isn’t it?  Now, crumple away some aluminum foil and easily remove all gunk and grime from your oven. Not only does this makes using the oven more convenient, but it also keeps your favourite kitchen equipment well-maintained for years to come.

You can also protect the oven from any spillage by lining the bottom racks with a layer of foil. Remember to not use any foil at the bottom part of the oven as it can be a fire hazard. Also, take care that the pan doesn’t directly touch the foil underneath.

  1. Crisp leftover pizza

There is definitely some pleasure (OK, a lot) in reheating last night’s leftover pizza for a quick bite the next morning. However, you don’t like the soggy crust when you heat it up in the microwave oven, right? Now, simply use some foil under the pizza slice, cover the crust with some and bake the slice for five minutes at a high temperature setting. Nice way to wake your kids on lazy Sunday mornings. Isn’t it?

  1. Polish chrome faucets

You love your chrome bathroom fixtures but hate the water and soap marks on them. Now, clean all chrome faucets with a small ball of aluminum foil and watch them sparkle. You can use it to clean chrome on any home appliance or item. Keep the shiny part of foil on the outside to make the process more effective.

  1. Slide furniture

You want to move the furniture around but are afraid of making any skid marks on the floor? Here comes aluminum foil to the rescue again. Place a thick wad of foil under the furniture legs with the dull shine on the outer side. Now slide with ease.

  1. Sharpen scissors

You have just settled down to tackle a craft project for your child’s school project and find the scissors not working properly. So, what do you do? Use aluminum foil of course. Just fold the foil several times over and use the dull scissors to cut some strips from it. You will find the scissors adequate enough to complete your task at hand.

  1. Line kitchen drawers

Line your kitchen drawers and cabinets with aluminum foil instead of paper or rubber sheets. It’s easier to clean and replace.

  1. Create funnels

When you need to transfer liquid from one bottle to another, you need a funnel. If you don’t have one in hand, make your own using some aluminum foil.

So, now keep a thick roll of aluminum foil handy always. You never know what you will need it for other than for wrapping the food, of course.
